Measuring the Searched Space to Guide Efficiency: The Principle and Evidence on Constraint Satisfaction

چکیده
Searched Space DEFINITION 1 State space: The total state space an evolutionary algorithm is able to search in is defined as . We assume all are equal, thus we know that and . DEFINITION 2 Searched space of an algorithm: The searched space is the set of points taken from the state space that is visited by a particular evolutionary algorithm during a run. DEFINITION 3 Resampling ratio: First we define a revisit as a point in the state space that we have seen before, i.e., it is already present in the searched space. The resampling ratio is defined as the total number of revisits in a run divided by the total number of evaluations in the same run: resampling ratio revisits evaluations. HYPOTHESIS 1 A resampling ratio too high will have a negative influence on the performance of an algorithm. HYPOTHESIS 2 The mutation operator with mutation rate has a large impact on the searched space, especially for small values of .

Toward Understanding Variable Ordering Heuristics for Constraint Satisfaction Problems
Most previous work on understanding variable ordering heuristics for constraint satisfaction problems has focused on the ability to recover from bad decisions. It has been demonstrated however that this ability cannot be the full explanation of the quality of a variable ordering heuristic [8]. In this paper, we develop a more complete framework for analyzing heuristics based on optimal policies...
متن کاملSexual Satisfaction and Function in Postmenopausal Women Treated with Herbal Medicines: A Review of Clinical Trials
Background: It is widely accepted that lower levels of sexual satisfaction and function are among the common problems in postmenopausal women. Several studies have examined the effect of plants containing phytoestrogens for the prevention and treatment of menopause complications. Aim: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of medicin...
متن کاملEstimation of Returns to Scale in the Presence of Undesirable (bad) Outputs in DEA when the Firm is Regulated
The calculation of RTS amounts to measuring a relationship between inputs and outputs in a production structure. There are many methods to measure RTS in the primal space or the dual space. One of the main approaches is using the multiplier on the convexity constraint. But returns to scale measurements in DEA models are affected by the presence of regulatory constraints. These additional constr...
متن کاملThe Relative generality and precision of Evidence Based Medical Infor-mation Resources in the Recovery of Diabetes Information
Background and Aim: Relative generality and precision are two important criteria for measuring the efficiency and performance of information retrieval systems. The aim of this study was to compare the integrity and location of evidence-based bases in the digital library of Hamedan University of Medical Sciences in data retrieval of diabetes. Methods: The design of this research is cross-sect...
متن کاملOn the duality of quadratic minimization problems using pseudo inverses
In this paper we consider the minimization of a positive semidefinite quadratic form, having a singular corresponding matrix $H$. We state the dual formulation of the original problem and treat both problems only using the vectors $x in mathcal{N}(H)^perp$ instead of the classical approach of convex optimization techniques such as the null space method. Given this approach and based on t...
